[tab title=”Italiano”]Negli ultimi anni abbiamo assistito ad un vero e proprio boom di Andrea Oliva, un artista cresciuto grazie a Cadenza che ha saputo differenziarsi dalla massa grazie alla sua grinta e determinazione. In questa intervista ci spiegherà ciò che fino ad oggi l’ha contraddistinto e i suoi progetti, presenti e futuri. Chiaramente poi non potevamo non fargli almeno una domanda su Luciano, suo grande scopritore.
Il 2013 è alle spalle e tu stai progettando un anno davvero di fuoco. Qual è stata la più grande soddisfazione dello scorso anno e cosa ti aspetti dal 2014?
Proverò a lavorare duramente come sempre e lascerò che le cose accadano naturalmente. Credo di potermi godere di più le cose che faccio se non mi carico di troppe pressioni. È importante che mi diverta in quello che faccio e più lavorerò duro più mi divertirò. Sono davvero curioso di vedere come andrà quest’anno.
Il tuo remix di “Rise Of Angels” è stato probabilmente uno dei 5 dischi più suonati del 2013, caratterizzato da un riff di piano balearic e dal groove che da anni caratterizza le release di Cadenza. Qual è stato il tuo approccio in studio?
Credo sia uscito un bel lavoro perché per la prima volta mi sono ritrovato a lavorare ad una traccia melodica come questa. Ho lavorato senza un vero e proprio schema, cercando di avere un approccio diverso dal solito. In più ho potuto inserire un vocal nella canzone, così ho chiesto ad Astrid e il lavoro che ne è uscito è perfetto.
So che la prossima estate la passerai ancora sulla Isla Blanca, grazie alla tua consolidata residency all’ANTS, organizzata all’Ushuaïa. Quale credi sia il punto di forza di ANTS?
È un party per tutti gli amanti della musica house e techno, senza i soliti nomi giganteschi, ma con talentuose guest. È uno di quei party che piace agli addetti ai lavori dell’isola e l’atmosfera che si respirava l’anno scorso era davvero magica. Siamo davvero orgogliosi di ciò che abbiamo fatto e non vediamo l’ora di sapere come andrà quest’estate.
Parlando dell’Italia, quale credi sia la situazione più in linea con la scena Europea?
L’Italia ha un sacco di club stupendi, ma fra tutti quelli che amo di più ci sono il Guendalina, il Cocoricò, il Tenax, il Muretto, l’Amnesia, il Red Zone ed il Cromie, nei quali ho suonato svariate volte. Gli italiani sono davvero calorosi in pista ma credo debbano supportare di più i dj del proprio paese, senza cercare sempre ospiti all’estero e valorizzando la scena locale. Dovete essere fieri dei vostri artisti e vogliosi di far vedere anche al resto del mondo cosa avete da offrire. Spero di poter vedere altri talenti come Joseph Capriati emergere nella scena mondiale supportati dalla propria gente.
Hai uscite pronte su etichette come Be As One, Saved, Nordstern Music, Defected, Objektivity e Mobilee per i prossimi mesi. Come sei riuscito a conciliare le tue gig con il tempo in studio? So che solo l’estate scorsa in 3 mesi hai suonato in più di 70 serate!
È semplice: cerco sempre di contenermi, non frequento troppi afterparty, dormo regolarmente e cerco di alimentarmi correttamente! Sono molto produttivo durante l’inverno, così in estate, quando ho una o due ore disponibili da passare in studio, cerco di lavorare su vecchi progetti e di finirli, con nuove ispirazioni. Questa è la mia formula magica!
Essere un Vagabundos e avere la possibilità di lavorare a fianco di un personaggio come Luciano non è sicuramente sul curriculum di tanti dj. Puoi dirci cosa vuol dire per te far parte del mondo Cadenza?
Luciano è unico nel suo genere! È una gran persona ed un gran amante della musica. Quando sei attorniato da persone come lui non puoi che essere ispirato.
Qual è la cosa che più ami e quella che più odi di fare la vita da dj?
Odio tutto quello che riguarda il viaggio, specialmente quando non posso dormire. Amo tutto il resto invece, dal conoscere nuove persone al condividere la musica, le emozioni e i bei momenti che riesco a far passare durante i miei dj set.

[tab title=”English”]In the last years everybody has noticed the outcome of Andrea Oliva, an artist who has grown thanks to Cadenza and who has been able to differentiate itself from the mass thanks to his grit and determination. In this interview, he explains what until now has characterized himself and its projects, present and future. Clearly then we could not get him at least a question about Luciano, its great discoverer.
2013 is just finished and you’re planning a very busy year. Can you tell us which satisfaction has been the greatest of last year and what do you expect from 2014?
I’ll just try to work hard as always and let things happen naturally. I think I can enjoy it more without putting too much pressure on myself this year. It’s important to have fun with what you do and the more you work hard the more you can have fun. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this year brings.
Your remix of “Rise Of Angels” has been probably one of the 5 most played songs in 2013, characterized by his super balearic piano hook and the latin groove, which is the Cadenza’s trademark. Can you explain us how did you approach to this remix?
I think it just worked out well because I never usually do melodic tracks like this one. I just worked freestyle on that remix and wantd to keep my approach different to how I normally work, then I could also fit a vocal in, so I asked my friend Astrid and the combination was perfect.
I know that next summer you’ll be once again in Ibiza, thanks to your established residency at ANTS, Ushuaïa. Which do you think is the strength of ANTS?
It’s a party for all the house and techno lovers, we don’t have huge big name headliners, it’s more about the super talented guests we book. It’s one of those parties for the workers on the island and the vibe for the first year was something magical. We put everything on the talent and music and were getting massive numbers week on week. We’re all so proud of what we acheived and are really looking forward to this year.
Dealing with Italy, which is the situation more similar to the European’s scene, according to you?
Italy has a lot of amazing clubs, I’ve played most of them! Guendalina, Cocorico, Tenax, Il Muretto, Amnesia, Red Zone , Cromie and there are so many more smaller or bigger venues which are also great. The Italian crowd is full of temperament and love on the dancefloor. I just wish would consider how amazing the club culture is in Italy and also celebrate Italian talent like they do the international artists, I think it really move the scene forward and be a big stamp on the Italian scene. You gotta support your local and national artists and be proud of them and showing to the world what Italy has to offer. I really hope we see a lot more of Italy’s rising talents like Joseph Capriati coming through with the support of their own country!
You’ll release a lot of EPs on label such as Be As One, Saved, Nordstern Music, Defected, Objektivity and Mobilee in the next few months but I know that last summer you had more than 70 gigs in just 3 months! How did you managed to work in studio and play in clubs?
It’s simple, I don’t get wasted, don’t go to too many afterpartys, get some sleep and eat good food! I am very productive in the wintertime, so in summer when I have like 1 or 2 days to sit in the studio I can just open older projects and finish them off with new inspiration. That’s my formula magica!
Being a Vagabundos and having the opportunity of working alongside someone like Luciano is not very common. Can you tell us what does it means being part of Cadenza?
Luciano is one of a kind! He is a very good person and massive music lover, if you’re sourrounded by people like that you can’t help but get inspired.
Which are the things you love and hate the most of your dj life?
I hate the travelling part, esspecially when I get no sleep. I love everything else about it though, from meeting people, sharing music, emotions, good times, playing gigs and just doing what I love most!
