Emotività, vivacità e varietà sono aggettivi che calzano a pennello per Guy J. Artista israeliano che sta salendo alla ribalta insieme ad un folto manipolo di suoi connazionali. Una musica calda, luccicante, che spazia attraverso tutte le sfumature che l’elettronica può avere, dall’house alla techno, passando per l’ambient e la melodica. Un suono fresco quello che caratterizza Guy J, stile che si adatta perfettamente a tutti i gusti di tutte le latitudini, tanto che la sua agenda è piena zeppa di date in giro per il mondo. Dopo varie uscite su Bedrock, la label di John Digweed, è pronto per il suo nuovo LP in uscita ad aprile: “1000 Words”, un doppio album in cui ci sarà musica sia della fase matura di Guy J, sia dei riflessi del suo passato. Mille parole forse non riusciremo a fargliele dire, ma pensiamo che nella nostra chiacchierata ci saprà svelare qualcosa di interessante su di lui e sul suo nuovo album.

Da Israele alla ribalta della scena mondiale, come è successo?
E’ un processo per cui si deve avere pazienza, serve tempo perchè si realizzi, ma ogni sua parte è divertente, la prima uscita è stata circa 4 anni fa, e ora sto per far uscire il mio secondo album “1000 Words” su Bedrock, è incredibile! Il supporto della gente, della famiglia e degli amici è importante, unito al fatto che i fans trovino interessante quel che tu fai.
Parlaci un po’ del tuo stile. Com’è la musica di Guy J?
La mia musica unisce più generi dell’house music, dalla progressive alla deep, alla tech e molti altri generi della musica house. Provo a fare musica attraverso le mie tracce, cercando di essere originale.
Per far nascere uno stile c’è bisogno di ispirazione, cosa ha ispirato te?
Di questi tempi traggo ispirazione dai posti in cui vado, dalla gente che incontro, penso che tutto possa essere fonte di ispirazione, dipende dal modo in cui lo si guarda, la musica è un modo di esprimersi, io la uso per esprimere me stesso.
Un po’ Dj, un po’ live performer. Cosa cambia per te? Cosa riesci ad esprimere di diverso nelle due forme di esibizione?
Cerco sempre di utilizzare le due modalità, le ho sempre utilizzate sin dall’inizio, è una buona combinazione per me, mi piacciono tutte e due e mi danno la possibilità di suonare la musica che faccio e vedere la reazione della gente mentre sono sullo stage. Fare musica è un processo individuale, anche se si è in più di una persona, ma un dj di fronte a una folla è una cosa che coinvolge le due parti, le quali si confrontano e si soddisfano.
Nella tua carriera hai avuto molte collaborazioni con John Digweed e con la sua Bedrock, parlaci un po’ del tuo rapporto con lui e con la sua label.
Sono molto contento di lavorare con Bedrock. E’ un etichetta che rispetta gli artisti e rispetta la musica, John Digweed la indirizza nella direzione giusta e ti da il giusto supporto, è un sogno avere un secondo album che sta per uscire su una label dove sono cresciuto.
Proprio su Bedrock stai per far uscire il tuo nuovo LP “1000 Words”, come è nato e cosa troveremo al suo interno?
“1000 Words” è il mio secondo album ed è composto da 3 CDs. Il primo CD è un mixato di downtempo e sperimentale, un viaggio di un’ora attraverso musica e sensazioni, sono 12 tracce ognuna appartenente a stili differenti. Sul secondo CD è un mix di tracce da “club”, sono 13 tracce che danno comunque un percorso, ma si parla di house music. Parte piano e poi sale. Il terzo CD è formato dai singoli del CD due.
Si avvicina l’estate, momento caldo non solo per la temperatura, cosa prevede la tua estate?
Sto per iniziare il mio tour per promuovere l’album, inizierò nel Regno Unito e suonerò in molti posti, dagli Stati Uniti al Messico, dal Canada al Sud America e in Europa. Suonerò anche in qualche festival estivo, sarò proiettato nel condividere la mia musica con gli altri.
E per quanto riguarda il futuro?
Continuerò a fare musica e a fare il Dj, voglio crescere come artista e musicista.

His music is very hot and glittering, a sound that goes through the all nuances of electronic music, from house to techno, going from ambient to melodic music. A fresh sound that is fit for all preferences all over the world, and that’s the reason why his schedule is full of international dates all over the globe. From Israel to the edge of the world scene, how it happened?
its a process that u need patient for it , its something that takes a while to build but every part of it is fun , first release came out around 4 years ago , and now having my second album “1000 word” coming out on Bedrock , its amazing . support from ppl in the scene and family& friends is very important and the phase of time that crowd find what you doing as interesting.
Talk about your style. How is your music?
My music combine few genres of house music , from progressive to deep, tech & more genres of house music , trying to deliver music in my trax and stay original.
To make a style you need inspiration. What inspired you?
this days inspirses me places i go and ppl i meet , i find everything can be inspiring , depends on how u look at it , music is a kind of expression , i use it to express my self .
4- A little bit dj, a little bit live performer. What’s change for you? What can you express of different in the two way of exhibition?
i always used to do both , started both around same time , its great combination for me , i love both and happy i have the chance to play the music i make , and to see reaction of ppl to it live on stage. creating music is individual process , either if its more then 1 person do it , but dj in front of a crowd its process that involve who ever in the same room so both are challenging , and satisfying.
In your career you had a lot of collaboration with John Digweed’s Bedrock, can you talk about your relationship with him and with the label?
I’m very happy i get to work with Bedrock its a label that respect it artist and respect music , John Digweed push the label in right direction every time and supporting , its a dream to have second album on label i grew up on its releases and artists .
Talking about Bedrock we know that you are going to release you new LP “1000 Words”, what’s the idea behind this project and what can wefind inside it?
“1000 Words” is my artist album that includes 3 cds first cd is mixed downtempo and experimental cd which gives 1 hour journey through music and feelings , there is 12 tracks each one go to different style , on
second cd is mixed “club” trax , 13 trax that give also a journey but based on house music , starts slow and build up and cd 3 its singles from cd 2 .
The summer is coming, so what are the plans for your summer?
im starting my album tour in the UK and from there go to perform indifferent places from Us, to Mexico,Canada ,south America and Europe, will play also in some festivals in summer time , really looking
forward to share my music with others.
And what about the future?
will keep on doing music and djing , want to develop myself more as artist and musician
